It's hardly surprising that the person to scoop up the People's Choice Award for Favourite Movie Actress should be Sandra Bullock – because, well, who doesn't like the Oscar-winning megastar? And as if to further prove her worthiness (not that she would need to) guess who she decided to thank in her award? All working mothers.

Speaking on the podium yesterday, the Miss Congeniality star praised her fellow female nominees, saying of them: 'They all break moulds, push that glass ceiling up, and they're all mamas. We're all working mamas who love what we do and we get to do what we do, because of you.'

Bullock recently announced she has adopted a second child, three-year-old Laila – a sister for her five-year-old adopted son, Louis.

The actress's 'glass-ceiling' comments are not out of character and follow on from remarks she made last year to Variety magazine about sexism in Hollywood.

'It’s a bigger issue than money,' she said, on the topic of the gender pay gap. 'I know we’re focused on the money part right now. That’s just a byproduct. I keep saying, "Why is it that no one is standing up and saying you can’t say that about a woman?" We’re mocked and judged in the media and articles. Really, how men are described in articles versus women, there’s a big difference."

'I always make a joke: "Watch, we’re going to walk down the red carpet, I’m going to be asked about my dress and my hair while the man standing next to me will be asked about his performance and political issues." Once we start shifting how we perceive women and stop thinking about them as "less than," the pay disparity will take care of itself. There’s a much bigger issue at hand. I’m glad Hollywood got caught.'

Sandra Bullock: the favourite movie actress of all time? Surely, a definite contender.
