Salma Hayek just opened up about the time that Donald Trump asked her out, and (as you’d guess) her story is certain to make you cringe.
Speaking on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, the actress revealed that the now-President attempted to win her over despite knowing that she was already in a relationship, claiming that Salma’s boyfriend was ‘not good enough’ for the star.
Trump and the actress first met at an event, when Trump noticed that Hayek was cold and so offered her a coat to put over her shoulders. So far, so… courteous? Worry not: things soon took a turn for the uncomfortable.
‘I turn around and my boyfriend – so charming, so nice – he said hello [to Trump]’ Hayek reminisced. ‘[Trump] kept talking to my boyfriend, and then he befriended my boyfriend, invited him to dinner… and then he was like, “If you guys are in New York […] you can stay in my hotel. Give me your numbers…” Never talked to my boyfriend again,’ she said.
According to the actress, Trump then took to phoning her separately to ask her (and – spoiler alert – her boyfriend was not invited…)
‘Now, he’s calling, he’s inviting me out, and I’m like, “What about my boyfriend? Am I crazy? Are you asking me out? You know I have a boyfriend,”’ she told Noah.
Trump’s response, according to Hayek, was to claim that her boyfriend was ‘not good enough for you. Not important, he’s not big enough for you. You have to go out with me.’
Surprisingly, this tactic did not win over the actress, who has been married to Francois-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of the Kering group, since 2009.
This isn't the only time that Trump's attempts to win over a Hollywood star have allegedly back-fired: earlier this year, actress Emma Thompson revealed that she turned down a date with Trump around the time of her divorce from first husband, Kenneth Branagh.
