This year has seen our links with family tested, with lockdowns and social distancing regulations meaning that many of us have been able to enjoy a simple hug or cup of tea with loved ones. For many, the hardest thing has been not having their mums around. So it’s good to see a new podcast that celebrates the simple, magic connection of a mother and daughter.
Today Saffron Barker, YouTube sensation and Strictly Come Dancing 2019 star, launches Mum Made Me Do It, with her mum Wendy. ‘My first ever vlog was on a family holiday and mum has featured in my content ever since,’ says Saffron. ‘So my followers know that we have a pretty special relationship. She really is my best friend and there’s not a lot we don’t talk about, so listeners can expect a completely unfiltered experience with our podcast. We like to call ourselves “the dream team” and although we are constantly bickering, we have an amazing bond which I can’t wait to share with everyone!’
‘I am so proud to have teamed up with Saffron to create this podcast’, adds Wendy. ‘We wanted it to be a true reflection of our relationship and it really is just that – the highs, the lows, the funny, the emotional, the uncensored. We hope everyone enjoys listening as much as we enjoy recording!’
With episodes available every Friday from November 20th, the pair will talk about their bond, their perceptions on body image, romance and periods.
It’s been a busy but proactive year for Saffron. In April, she spearheaded the #YouTubers4NHSHeroes initiative, which sought to raise funds and awareness for NHS Charities Together. 'The NHS makes me so proud to be British', she told Grazia at the time.
'They’ve helped my family and I for years but the past month has made us all realise how incredible they really are. From the surgeons, nurses, doctors, paramedics, to hospital staff – they are all heroes and we have seen that every day through their selflessness and bravery. With everything going on at the moment, I wanted to do something to help.'
