On your 11th million listen of Taylor Swift’s latest album, you might feel like she’s your best friend. But she’s not. Sorry. Not all is lost, though, as today alone we’ve been presented with two examples of what it’s really like to be Taylor Swift’s mate. So just imagine really hard and maybe you can get back to the happy place where she is your BFF.
First up, Lorde went on to The Tonight Show Night Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about (and sing) her song from The Hunger Games soundtrack, Yellow Flicker Beat. And when Jimmy asked her about how she became such good buddies with Taylor, she explained that it’s all because some random confused her for the Shake It Off singer’s manager at an event.

If you can’t watch the video right now, in it, Lorde says it’s stuff like that you’ve got to bond over. ‘We were at this Grammy party… I found her and clung to her. A lot of people come up to Taylor, to talk about stuff and she’s lovely, she’s great.’

‘And there’s some guy and he wanted her to play some event he was having and he talked to us for about 10 minutes… It got to the end of the conversation and he said, “So I’ll leave my card, is this your manager?” and he points at me. And… no beat passed and she’s like “Yup”.’
‘And all of a sudden I was Taylor Swift’s manager. This tiny, gothy, hunched person… and the worst part is I performed that night about half an hour later!’
Which is taking it in pretty good spirits, to be fair, especially considering she actually won two of the awards. So our first learning is that, if you’re mates with Taylor Swift, she’ll play pranks on you.

The next story of what it’s like to be Taylor’s friend comes from the horse’s mouth itself. Well, the horse’s Instagram. ‘This was what happened when Lena and I found out that there is a rap song called ‘Lena Dunham’. @lenadunham, she captioned a video of her and yep, you guessed it, Lena Dunham, dancing to the song Lena Dunham by the impressively-named Hand Job Academy. Could we say Lena Dunham much more?
What is our second learning? She’s definitely dancing worse than you are. And that’s OK.
