It was one of our favourite memes of 2016. You know the one we're talking about - from Taylor Swift's epic 4 July celebrations, featuring then boyfriend Tom Hiddleston, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The one where Ryan Reynolds' facial expression captured what everyone was thinking... namely, 'why?'
The shot in question sees Taylor and friend Blake sitting on their significant other's laps. The thing is, while Taylor is staring lovingly at Tom, Ryan's face is doing something quite different. He's staring into the void. He's seen things he can't unsee. He is the world's most depressed man.
Coming at the end of the Hiddleswift love promo tour, following on from that 'I heart TS' vest, the Internet could understand why Ryan might look a little dead inside. And it agreed with him.
But now it appears that Ryan himself was totally clueless to his expression in the picture - in fact, he didn't even know that it was being taken.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about said photo, he said: "No that's a problem I've had all my life. If I'm not aware a photo is being taken, my natural resting face is one of a man dying. I had no idea somebody was taking a photo. Therefore I was resting comfortably in my persona of a man whose soul is visibly exiting this earth."
We're not sure we're entirely convinced...
