After years of Gwyneth Paltrow’s odd musings on wellness and happiness and all the weird stuff you have to eat in order to feel good, Twitter’s braced itself for any other actress saying something silly. That’s why, when Eva Mendezs said something untoward about sweatpants (every avid Tweeter’s fave leg-wear), the social media site was full of mean comments about her.
Eva had been asked by* Extra* if she wears sweatpants at home. Her reply? ‘No no no, sweatpants, no no no…you can’t do sweatpants… Ladies, number one cause of divorce in America, sweatpants – no, you can’t do that!’
Now, it’s a bit condescending to suggest clothes maketh the marriage, and it’s a bit silly that she’s implying women have to be presentable for their man at all times, but maybe she just prefers to veg out in a nightie or in sweat_shorts_? It is warm in LA, after all.
Anyway, the response on various celeb media sites and Twitter was so vicious that her long-term boyfriend Ryan – who really isn’t a big social media guy, despite what the memes would tell you – went online to declare a big interest in sweatpants.
Thing is, if you want a serious answer on something you’re asking an actress? Ask her about her ‘craft’ or something wanky like that. Not what she thinks of various items of loungewear. Our theory? She’s more of a yogapants kind of gal.
As for Ryan? We’re imagining him in the grossest, most grease-laden, mucky pair of sweatpants and we’re still OK with that mental image.
