While the entire Oscars auditorium - and everyone at home watching - was stunned into shock following the award for Best Picture being wrongfully announced as La La Land when really Moonlight had won, Ryan Gosling was the only one to keep his cool. Gosling was caught sniggering at the absurdity of the mess-up, and it quickly went viral. It's this reaction that has caused the odds of him becoming Daniel Craig's successor as the next Bond to be slashed from 14/1 to 10/1.
'Ryan Gosling showed an admirable sense of humour and his composure was worthy of Mr Bond – the coolest cucumber of them all,' said Rupert Adams, a spokesperson for William Hill.
The awkward moment. @busyphillipps
However, his fate isn't sealed. Gosling won't be making the dramatic departure from playing La La Land's singing-and-dancing Sebastian to playing the iconic (and not forgetting, British) spy 007 just yet, as he is up against some perhaps more favourable Bond potentials: Tom Hardy, James Norton and Michael Fassbender.
We're not sure how Ryan will fare, as talks of Tom Hiddleston playing Bond subsided long ago, and Gosling would definitely be more like Hiddleston's Bond, aka pretty, rather than, say, Hardy's Bond who would be more tough.
But anything can happen - just keep being cool, Ryan.
