Ryan Gosling has explained what was going through his head when Moonlight was revealed as the real winner of Best Film at the Oscars 2017.

In what will surely go down in history as the biggest Academy Awards blunder ever, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway wrongly announced La La Land as the winner of the most coveted award of the night, after being handed the wrong card.

The actor, who was the leading man in La La Land, was on the stage with the rest of the cast and crew accepting the Best Actor award when the mistake was unveiled.

Unlike his colleagues, Gosling appeared to find the whole situation somewhat hilarious, with many Twitter users pointing out that he giggled throughout the whole kerfuffle.

Speaking at the Adobe Summit in Las Vegas this week, he revealed what he was thinking as the whole scene unfolded.

'What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt,' he explained.

'I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst-case scenario playing out in my head. And then I just heard Moonlight won and I was so relieved that I started laughing.'
