So Russell is continuing his ‘re-branding’ (gettit?) as a political maestro by writing a new, as yet unnamed political tome set for release in October this year. Speaking about the new book, Russell said:
‘People keep asking me how The Revolution will work? “We all want to bring down the government and establish a personal and global utopia but how?”, they ask. Well in this book, I'm going to explain it. Having accrued the greatest wisdom known to man - by conducting interviews, watching DVDs, reading books, thinking and looking at the sky - I am now able to put in a simple, accessible book(y wook) the solution to internal and external turmoil. And about time too.’
According to publishers Century , the books will deal with Brand’s opinion on ‘inequality, rioting, financial meltdown, and the total mistrust of politicians’ and will encourage us all to ‘discard apathy and challenge the status quo’.
Now, it’s not that we don’t get that Russell Brandhas recently done a lot more to engage a generation of allegedly ‘politically apathetic’ young people than quite a few of our elected officials, but the thing is we suspect Russell Brand might have bitten off more than he can chew here. We’re not sure he’s strictly qualified, as a comedian and sometime actor, to provide a guide for overthrowing governments and a manifesto for a global utopia. I mean, that sounds like quite a big ask, doesn’t it? Did he even do politics AS Level? We’re all for adding to the political debate, but doesn’t this kind of feels like a way of monetising on his current ‘rent-a-gob’ status as the ‘voice of a generation’? Then again, we could be wrong and, come its release in October, this book could be as revolutionary as The Communist Manifesto. We wait on breath that is bated.
