If you’ve been on Instagram within the last week, in among the #10yearchallenges and Top Nine round ups, then you surely will have seen people trying out an arrangement of fun, slightly bizarre Instagram filters. Through Instagram stories, people have been using the app to find out which Disney characters they are, what their 2020 will bring and, erm, what their Pokemon would be.
And Zelda Williams - the daughter of the late Robin Williams - had an unexpected result when she tried the ‘What Disney character are you' filter. When playing the game, it stopped on Genie, the Aladdin character voiced by her late dad. It’s a crazy - but very wholesome - coincidence, and one that made us all very emotional. ‘That’s awesome. Divine intervention for that for sure,’ said an Instagram user, while another added, ‘Her reaction is priceless. You could still see the happiness there.’
In 2018, Zelda honoured her dad with a long post on Instagram, saying it was 'overwhelming to have strangers need me to know how much they cared for him right now' and that 'it’s harder still to be expected to reach back.’ She added, 'Happy early birthday, Poppo. Miss you every day, but especially these ones.'
If you haven’t yet jumped on the trend, you can also get involved when you see somebody try the filter on their story. Click the title of the filter (which appears under their username) in the top left, then select 'try it' from the bar that pops up. From there, you can take a video to figure out which Disney character you are (or whatever other filter you’d like to try). Go forth. It really is a lot of fun; there's a reason why everyone is trying it.
