Practically everyone in the world has joined Taylor Swift on stage. She’s had everyone from Serena Williams to Julia Roberts to Uzo Aduba from* Orange Is The New Black* and Gigi Hadid. She’s almost running out of women (and people, because of course she’s had blokes up on stage with her too), to the point wherea parody video of Taylor inviting the likes of Amanda Knox on stage with her went viral.
But one super celebrity who definitely won’t be joining Taylor on stage at any stage of her 1989 world tour is Rihanna.
Rihanna told* NME* – now available for free in all of London’s tube stations along with your local HMV or Topman (not Topshop yet, bizarrely, considering its first cover star): ‘I don’t think I would. I just don’t think it makes sense.
‘I don’t think our brands are the same; I don’t think they match. I don’t think our audiences are the same. In my mind she’s a role model; I’m not.’
It sure is a diplomatic way of putting it, because, from where we’re standing, they’re both mainstream pop acts. Maybe Rihanna just can’t be bothered playing second fiddle to anyone. Perhaps, just like Nicki Minaj had Taylor Swift join her on stage at the VMAs, Rihanna will let Taylor onto her show, but won’t go out of her schedule to go sing with Taylor. That, is, until her album is released.
About that album: ‘It’s not done! To me it’s never done until it’s done. Until the final moment,’ she said.
‘No matter what I post online, within three comments there’s somebody saying, “Where is R8?” I could post anything. Nothing else matters. They don’t care about anything but that. But it makes me excited, because I can’t wait to give them something great.’
We’ll be waiting right here, Ri-Ri. For the album, not for you to harmonise over Bad Blood.
