When we heard that Rihanna was going to be the first black woman to front Dior’s ad campaigns, we were pretty excited. But no-one quite prepared us for just how incredible the images were going to be.
The high-glamour photoshoot feature some items we already covet – a cropped fur gilet (we never know when we’ll use it, we just kind of want it), some rounded sunglasses which look like they’re either from 1922 or 2122, a clutch purse with an empire’s worth of gems stuck to it, and a head-to-toe sequin gown – and the lighting, all purple and dark blue looks exactly what we like to think we look like at about 1am in a club’s toilets.
The photos were taken at the Palace of Versailles, which is where opulence and conspicuous consumption were basically invented and even if you think it’s just a bunch of spangles and chintz, here’s what Rihanna’s got to say about it all.
‘It feels fantastic. It’s such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any colour. I think, to be acknowledged by Dior is just... it means a lot as a woman to feel beautiful and elegant and timeless.’
