Did you hear that loud cracking sound across the globe over the weekend? It wasn’t the sound of Easter eggs being smashed open, but the sound of our hearts collectively breaking at the news that Regé-Jean Page will not be returning for the second season of Bridgerton.

The actor told Variety that he will not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings for the show's second season because he only signed on for the first. ‘It’s a one-season arc,” he explained about how the show’s producers pitched the role to him. 'It’s going to have a beginning, middle, end — give us a year.’

He broke the news to his 5.5 million Instagram followers over the weekend, explaining, ‘It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family - not just on screen, but off screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans - it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.’

Kim Kardashian was just one of the millions of fans who was heartbroken, commenting on the post, ‘Wait!!! WHAT????’ It has been reported that the second series of the Netflix drama will focus on ‘Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess’. While Regé is stepping away, Phoebe Dynevor - who plays his wife Daphne Bridgerton - is thought to be returning to film season 2 which will go into production later this summer.

Here are the things we’ll miss most about the Duke of Hastings:

1. Those brooding looks. Has anyone done better brooding looks this side of Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice?

2. His hanky. That guy was the best supporting actor in so many ways (IYKTYK).

3. The swoon-worthy one-liners. No one can reduce us to a flustered mess quite like Simon. Remember this one? Daphne: ‘If you were truly courting me, you’d buy out every florist in town.’ Simon: ‘If I were truly courting you, I would not need flowers, only five minutes alone with you in a drawing room.’ Woof!

4. THE bicep moment. Picture the scene...He's getting overly involved with a big boxing match and the camera gives us a slow mo shot of him rolling up his sleeves? If you didn't rewind and rewatch you can't sit with us.

5. His regency f* boy lines. 'It is because I regard you so highly that I cannot marry you.' The 1813 version of 'it's not you it's me'**

6. The topless scenes. Sorry, but we know you’ll miss them too.

7. THE SPOON. Ah that spoon, we can’t help but think about all the good times we had. The Duke, the spoon and us: all enjoying the moment without a phone in sight. We wonder if the spoon will be back for season two, at least?
