If, like us, you’re very much counting down the days until the anticipated second season of Big Little Lies, we’ve found the perfect piece of fashion-friendly merch to tide you over until 2019, when the series is slated to return to our screens – and it has Reese Witherspoon’s seal of approval.
Taking to Instagram to post a cheerful TGIF message from the set of the critically acclaimed HBO show, the Golden Globe winner posed as the embodiment of our weekend mood: arms aloft against the California sunset, cup of tea in one hand, and – this is the best bit – wearing a black jumper bearing the names of our favourite fictional Monterey mums in white Helvetica text.
‘Beautiful sunset on the set of Big Little Lies! So lucky to be working with these amazing actresses and actors, our great director and incredible crew. Feeling very grateful. #TGIF,’ Reese’s message read.
The ‘Celeste & Jane & Bonnie & Renata & Madeline’ sweatshirt takes the classic trope of pop culture merch – listing anything from the members of a band to characters from a TV show – which originated with a Beatles-inspired design, and gives it a Big Little Lies twist: cast your eyes down to the final name in the list and you’ll see that the ‘n’ of ‘Madeline’ (Reese’s character) has dropped below, drawing our attention to ‘lie’ instead. Clever, no?
The jumper in question is available from Totally Good Time, an online merch store with the tag line ‘pop culture, but make it fashion,’ and is priced at $49. Though the brand is based in Brooklyn, international shipping is available with prices based on weight and calculated by the United States Postal Service (luckily for us fans of Big Little Lies based on the other side of the Atlantic). Our only question is: once season two finally arrives, aren’t we all going to want a new sweater featuring Meryl Streep’s character name, too?

The prospect of a gender-flipped re-boot doesn't always fill us with anticipation, but that's not the case with Ocean's 8, which has managed to cast - deep breath - Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, rapper and comedian Awkwafina and Rihanna as a gang of con artists orchestrating a jewel heist at the Met Gala (Anne Hathaway plays their target). Given the star power involved, here's hoping they pull it off…
