Those Reality TV Shows You Love? They’re Fake

How will we ever recover?

Remember The Hills? That glossily-packaged real-life drama/reality show which spawned not only that two-headed behemoth of desperate celebrity Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, but two of the UK's biggest reality shows: Made In Chelsea and TOWIE.

Well, in today's duh-news, it turns out the whole scripted reality malarkey behind The Hills was just that – scripted. One of the original stars, Audrina Patridge, has divulged that any realness quickly disintegrated to the point where producers would lock her in a room with co-star Kristin Cavallari in a bid to make them fight with one another.

She told E! News, 'I actually had to leave early for another event. We were there for about three hours and they were like, "You can't leave until you and Kristin get into a fight." So I'm like, "Oh my god, Kristin!" Kristin's like, "Let's do it." I'm like, "OK, c'mon."

It's still to be said exactly how 'constructed' (read: fake) today's shows such as TOWIE and Made In Chelsea are but, with all those awkward silences, shifty looks to camera and sudden departures of 'cast members' who are supposed to be integral to the friendship group, we're guessing a lot of it's about as real as, er, Heidi Montag's face.
