We know that we're adults, and that news like this shouldn't be enough to make us gasp 'Oh. My. God' into our morning coffee, but you're going to have to forgive us. Because at long last, our prayers to the gods of Phantom Planet have been answered. We are getting an OC reunion of sorts, thanks to a new podcast of our dreams.
Yesterday, a teaser was released for a new OC podcast hosted by Rachel Bilson - who played Summer - and Melinda Clarke - who played Julie. It has been almost fifteen years since the beloved teen drama left our screens in 2007. 'Join the original OC bitches, friends, and co-stars, Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke, for a trip back to the early 2000s,' reads the description for the podcast, titled Welcome To The OC Bitches. 'Zip up your Juicy Couture tracksuits and grab a seat by the pool while they deliver the ultimate O.C.-rewatch podcast.' Rachel and Melinda will be rewatching individual episodes of the show, before sharing 'behind-the-scenes scoops' and interviewing individuals who were 'part of the O.C. experience'. Naturally, they haven't announced who as yet, but we're confident that they can bring in some of their former co-stars for a reunion.
It's no surprise that Rachel is keen to revisit that time of her life. She speaks very fondly of the whole experience. 'I love The OC', she told She Knows in 2019. 'It gave me everything, and I’m still super close to Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and I would do anything with them in a heartbeat.'
Asked where she thinks Summer would be now, she answered that she thought she would continue to progress in the way the final season teased by showing that her days of being a shallow high school girl were firmly behind her. 'She really went to the opposite extreme and went to Brown and was an activist and everything, which I think is super awesome,' she said. 'I feel like she became a lawyer, she was really good at arguing.' She would undoubtedly be killing it in the fashion stakes too.
Adam Brody, who played Seth, would also clearly be open to a revisit, having voiced his approval of a potential reboot. 'I’m sort of a fan of the reboot culture moment we’re having,' he told GQ. 'I don’t get too put-off by re-doing shows from my youth. I actually like it, and if it doesn’t work—which mostly it doesn’t—then fine, it’s flattering to the original show. If it works, then you get a new addition. It would have my blessing.'
