R Kelly’s 13-year-old child, Jay Kelly, has come out as transgender and says that his father hasn’t spoken to him since he broke the news.

Jay, who was born Jaya, revealed he is transgender via his Instagram biowhich says: ‘Jay, transguy, ukulele’, and has been answering questions about his story via ask.fm.

He says his father has not spoken to him since he came out, but that his mother Andrea has been supportive.

One question asks why he doesn’t like his father, to which he responded: ‘You wouldn’t even understand.’ When asked if he listens to his dad’s music he responded: ‘I don’t listen to his music, it’s really inappropriate and my mum doesn’t like us listening to stuff like that.’

Jay, who turns 14 on 28 June, says he has identified as male since he was six or seven years old, and that he came out to his mother via text: ‘I came out through a text to my mum… I told her because I knew she would love me no matter what, she has not once judged me in life. She always told me that she loved me and to be who I truly am.’

He says that he is looking forward to beginning hormone treatment and also having gender reassignment surgery, which he cannot legally have until he is 18.
