When it was announced that Prince Philip is stepping down from his role this autumn to enjoy full-time retirement, the nation was in mourning. Seriously though, who else will unveil plaques with such gusto?
But of course, we must take a moment to consider the Queen, as she will no longer have her 96-year-old husband to accompany her on royal engagements. Though we needn't worry, as it seems she has already moved on...
Her Majesty has chosen Household Cavalry officer Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrahas as her equerry. And the 38-year-old Ghanaian-born veteran is reportedly set to be the Royal Family's first ever black equerry.
It's hardly surprising the Queen chose him to be by her side, as he boasts an impressive CV. The Household Cavalry officer was employed as the escort commander at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011 before commanding the Blues and Royals at the Queen's birthday parade.
And Twumasi-Ankrah is thrilled to be taking on the prestigious role, as he told The Sunday Times: "I would have never imagined that one day I'd command the regiment which I'd fallen in love with. From what I've seen in the UK, our cultures really do mix and if I'm not a good example of that I really don't know what is."
