The Queen will address the country on Sunday amid the coronavirus outbreak. While the monarch records an address every Christmas, this will be only the fourth unscheduled address she has made during her 68-year reign.

Buckingham Palace said the message, recorded at Windsor Castle, will be broadcast on TV and radio at 8pm on Sunday, with the Royal Family Twitter account confirming that the speech will also be shown across their social media channels. The news comes as the U.K. death toll hit 3,605 Friday, with the number rising by 684 in 24 hours.

During the outbreak, the Queen has been staying at Windsor Castle with Prince Philip.

Today, Prince Charles - who tested positive for coronavirus last week - opened the new Nightingale Hospital to treat intensive care patients via video-link today.

The hospital, named after nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, will need an army of up to 16,000 staff in clinical and ancillary roles to keep it running. The facility - which is split into more than 80 wards containing 42 beds each - will be used to treat Covid-19 patients who have been transferred from other intensive care units across London.
