J K Rowling, Julie Walters And Ed Sheeran Make The Queen’s Birthday Honours List

The Queen's Birthday Honours list was revealed last night, and a number of famous faces made the cut.

The biannual list recognises people who have made public achievements or comitted themselves to helping Britian. This list, revealed to mark the Queen's official birthday (10th June), honours over 1000 people and includes awards such as OBE, MBE and Knighthood.

From the world of entertainment, Ed Sheeran , Emile Sande and Erin O'Conner were awarded MBEs while David Walliams can add OBE to the end of his name.

Additionally, actresses Julie Walters and June Whitfield were awarded the prestigous title of Dame, comedian Billy Connolly bagged a knighthood, and Sir Paul McCartney, who received a knighthood twenty years ago now has upgraded his title with a Companion For Honour.

However, it is not just celebrities the list recognises.

PC Keith Palmer, the police officer murdered in the Westminster terror attack earlier this year, has been given a posthumous bravery award, and PC Craig Nicholls and PC Jonathan Wright, who were responsible for arresting the killer of MP Jo Cox, are awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal.

Interestingly, this list was on of the most diverse thus far with half of this year's honourees being female, and 10% from black or minority ethnic backgrounds.
