I have some important Great British Bake Off news to share with you, and before you lose your shit I want you to sit there and contemplate the Bake Off years gone by.

Are you done? OK, let’s do this. According to The Sun, Mary Berry’s replacement has been announced. I am aware this may come as a shock to some of you – perhaps you were living in the denial phase of your Bake Off fandom, still awaiting the ‘surprise’ jump Mary would do as she swung back onto our screens. But no, she’s not coming back…sorry to disappoint.

Instead – Prue Leith is stepping in. You may be sat there, very much like me, wondering who on earth this lady with a delightful name actually is. At least three of us in conference this morning didn’t have a clue, while everyone else knew exactly who she was, so don’t be hard on yourself.

Prue is a 76-year-old food critic and campaigner. Her real name is Prudence Margaret ‘Prue’ Leith, and she’s basically done a whole host of fantastic things - including: television presenter, journalist, cookery writer, written a novel and owned a resturant. She also judged BBC Two’s The Great British Menu. Is there anything she can't do? Basically she’s done a bloody lot so this means she’s the right lady for the job.

Channel 4 have confirmed that they will be announcing the program’s full line up in ‘due course,’ but are yet to confirm Prue’s attendance on the show. She would be joining Paul Hollywood over on Channel 4 if she makes the cut. Presenters Sue Perkins, Mel Giedroyc and Mary Berry said they would stay with the BBC, which is pretty shit tbh but it looks like the show’s in good hands people. Now let's all go bake a cake for Prue,
