It seems like only yesterday Princess Charlotte was born, but today she's off for her first day of school.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their four-year-old daughter to her first day at St Thomas’s in Battersea, South London today, along with their son Prince George, who has been a pupil since 2017.

A spokesperson for Kensington Palace had previously confirmed, "Princess Charlotte, accompanied by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George, will attend her first day of school at Thomas's Battersea on Thursday 5th September."

Charlotte has been attending Willcocks Nursery in Kensington since January 2018, but will be moving to Reception. Prince George, six, will be joining Year Two alongside his friends and classmates at St Thomas's, which has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.

Headmaster at Thomas's Battersea, Simon O'Malley, said they were 'delighted' to welcome Charlotte to school.

Earlier this year, he said, 'We are delighted that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have decided that Princess Charlotte will join her elder brother, Prince George, at Thomas's Battersea. We greatly look forward to welcoming her and all of our new pupils to the school in September.'

Kate Middleton missed out on her son's first day at St Thomas's due to acute morning sickness – also known as hyperemesis gravidarum – as she was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time, so it's sure to be a momentous occasion for the Duchess.

A spokesperson said at the time, 'Unfortunately the Duchess of Cambridge remains unwell, and will not be able to accompany Prince George on his first day of school.

'The Duke of Cambridge will drop off Prince George this morning as planned.'

She was also forced to pull out of numerous engagements due to her illness, which she also suffered during her two other pregnancies.
