According to reports, Prince William wants to help the coronavirus relief efforts by returning to his role as an air ambulance pilot. The Duke of Cambridge apparently said he’d like to return during a visit to a 111 call centre in Croydon with Kate earlier this month. Before stepping down in 2017, William spent two years flying medics to emergencies.
‘William has been seriously considering returning as an air ambulance pilot to help in the current pandemic,’ a source toldThe Sun. ‘He knows the whole country is doing its bit and he wants to help. But it’s complicated as he was originally grounded from the job so that he could become a senior working royal.’
Tracy Pidgeon, governance lead and call-handler, told the paper: 'He was asking about how busy we have been, and what shifts everybody was doing. We were saying everybody was working really hard. He misses the helicopter, being on the front line. He just said he misses it.’
William is currently isolating with Anmer Hall, Norfolk, with wife Kate and children George, Charlotte and Louis. This weekend, the couple urged the nation to look after their mental health amid the pandemic. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridgewrote on Instagram, 'The last few weeks have been anxious and unsettling for everyone. We have to take time to support each other and find ways to look after our mental health. It is great to see the mental health sector working together with the NHS to help people keep on top of their mental wellbeing.'
