For five-year-old Lily-Anne Flores, even visiting royalty aren’t immune from important household rules, as Prince Harry found out while visiting her and her family on a trip to the Veterans’ Village in Manchester yesterday.

Before the Prince was allowed into the house, which Lily-Anne shares with her brothers Kobi and Damaso and her father Simon (who served in the Army for 13 years), he was told to ‘wipe [his] feet!’ by the youngster.

‘Shall I take my shoes off?’ Harry reportedly asked, before complying with Lily-Anne’s polite request and wiping his feet on the door mat.

Harry first visited the street in Newton Heath, Manchester, back in September 2015 along with his brother William, as part of a BBC DIY SOS programme to transform derelict housing into homes for veterans, allowing former servicemen and women to smoothly navigate the transition back to civilian life. Two years on, the Prince had returned to see the finished Village in action.

Simon, a Lance Corporal who served in Iraq until he was injured by a roadside explosive, told reporters that he and his family were delighted to meet the Prince. ‘He was made up with [the children] and was having pictures with them. He loves kids, it was brilliant,’ he said.

‘It was an honour to meet him, not just because he’s royalty but because he’s been there, experienced it and see it. So he knows where we are coming from and can relate,’ he added.

Earlier in the day, the Prince responded to the official Palace announcement that his sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, is expecting her third child, giving a thumbs up to reporters and describing the news as ‘Fantastic, great, very, very happy.’ When asked about how the Duchess is currently faring, he answered ‘I haven’t seen her for a while but I think she is OK.’
