Prince Harry is on a major charm offensive at the moment, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
After making a relaxed public debut with his girlfriend Meghan Markle earlier this week, the Prince has been a regular courtside presence at various Invictus Games sporting fixtures. At yesterday’s wheelchair volleyball match, it appears he made a new friend – albeit one who was mainly interested in stealing the royal popcorn.
At the volleyball match between the UK and Denmark last night, the Prince was seated next to Hayley Henson, wife of former UK Invictus athlete David Henson, who is also a Paralympic bronze medallist. Accompanying Hayley was her two-year-old daughter Emily.
When Harry was fully absorbed by the action unfolding on court, the fearless toddler took advantage of his distraction and seized the opportunity to lean across and grab some of the Prince’s popcorn. As Harry continued to be deep in conversation with his neighbour, little Emily was able to use the same tactics again and again, until he finally turned around and realised his snack was seriously depleted. Ever the joker, he then pretended to take the popcorn away, before eventually relenting and sharing his snack with his new friend.
He then went on to keep Emily entertained by pulling an impressive range of funny faces and showing an interest in her array of toys, giving us a glimpse at the playful role he takes as uncle to Prince George, four, and Princess Charlotte, two.
The Prince has previously revealed that he would ‘love to have kids,’ and in a recent interview with Newsweek discussed the close bond he shares with his young nephew and niece, explaining ‘the reason I am now fifth [in line to the throne] is because of my nephew and niece and I could never wish them away. They are the most amazing things ever.’
‘I am determined to have a relatively normal life and if I am lucky enough to have children they can have one too,’ he added.
