Get your pre-orders in, Prince Harry is set to write one of the most anticipated books of all time. Expected to be published around 2022, yesterday it was announced Harry is going to tell his own story ‘not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become’. In a statement, his publishers, Penguin's Random House, said the book will ‘[cover] his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father.’
It goes without saying, the book is going to be an instant hit. But while there’s still over a year before it’s out on shelves, it’s already causing outrage - even though we can guarantee many of Harry’s high-paid haters in the media will be quick to devour the book. Many are demanding the rest of his titles to be stripped, even though he stepped away from being a working royal with his wife Megan in 2020.

His narrative has been controlled throughout his life, it feels only right that he should be able to reclaim some of that. You don’t have to like him, or even believe what he writes, but he does have a right to tell his own side of events. And even though he’s a member of the royal family, that doesn’t take away that fact. He is also donating the profits of the book to charity - think of the millions he will raise - which shows just how much he wants to do this.
Yes, Harry is the first senior royal to write a memoir - but is it really surprising that Harry wants to tell his own story and write a book? Indeed his own mother - who was also hounded by the press - was so keen to get her story out there that she answered questions for Andrew Morton's explosive 1992 biography (it was only revealed she had a part in the book after she died). At least, this time round, Harry will not need to be as secretive. It’s on his terms - and no amount of shouting is going to stop that.
