Harry Raises His Eyebrows To Meghan After Liam Payne's Commonwealth Day Performance

Yesterday was Commonwealth Day, a celebration marked by a special service held at Westminster Abbey and attended by a strong showing from the royal family, with a guest list including the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and yes, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (in her first official appearance alongside the Queen).

Aside from Meghan’s sleek Amanda Wakeley coat and Stephen Jones beret (plus her shoe-twinning moment with future sister-in-law Kate), what really caught our collective imagination was the moment when Harry and Meghan appeared to forget the cameras and share an in-joke that appeared to have something to do with one Liam Payne.

After Liam’s performance of John Mayer’s ‘Waiting on the World to Change’ (we imagine the lyrics to ‘Strip That Down’ or ‘Bedroom Floor’ didn’t quite get the royal seal of approval), the former One Directioner bumped fists with his guitarists A slightly incongruous gesture given his surroundings (ie. a multi-faith ceremony at Westminster Abbey), no doubt, and one that didn’t escape the notice of Harry, who immediately glanced at his fiancé and slightly raised his eyebrows. Meghan immediately caught the giggles and briefly appeared to lower her head to avoid breaking out into a laugh. And as for Harry’s response? After their meeting at the Dunkirk premiere, we can only imagine he’s more of a Harry Styles fan.

Liam, however, appeared unperturbed, later tweeting that it ‘was an absolute pleasure to be part of Commonwealth Day’ and sharing a photo of him getting a handshake from the Queen.

After the service, Meghan, Harry, Kate and William were greeted by a delegation of school children, including a particularly sweet duo (one wearing a tracksuit, the other in a tiara) who presented Meghan with a small bouquet of flowers and appeared to curtsey as they greeted her.
