Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Have Been Given The Most Noughties First Baby Gifts

After announcing their pregnancy news on Monday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already received their very first baby gifts – and they’re decidedly Australian in theme.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were officially welcomed to Admiralty House by Australia’s Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, and his wife Lynne, they were presented with two very sweet gifts for their new arrival, due in the spring of 2019: a toy kangaroo (with a baby joey hidden in its pouch) and a pair of teeny-tiny Ugg boots to keep the baby cosy (for scale, see this picture of Prince Harry showing them off for the camera…)

A video clip from the meeting shows Meghan exclaim ‘Our first baby gift!’ on receiving the toy, but this certainly won’t be the only gift that the couple receive over the course of their 16-day trip: photos from their ‘walkabout’ in Sydney show well-wishers clutching a variety of Aussie-themed cuddly toys to give to the Sussexes, and the pair were also presented with traditional Akubra hats by the Governor-General.

At a reception later that day, Harry alluded to the new addition to his family in his address, telling guests that he and Meghan were happy to have broken the news while in Australia. ‘We genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby, whether it’s a boy or a girl,’ he said, going on to add his excitement at being able to show Meghan the country for the first time.

‘It’s great to be back in Australia, and especially even more so as this is my wife’s first visit here, so I’m very excited to show her this incredible country of yours, perhaps not Kangaroo Flats military training area in Darwin though,’ he said.

At a reception at Admiralty House later that day, the Duchess revealed that she and Harry were ‘ready’ for parenthood, telling Australian YouTuber Eddie Woo ‘we’re excited to join the club.’
