An official engagement involving Prince William and Kate Middleton inevitably means one thing: a series of brilliant photo opportunities for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, ideally involving their two young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte for extra adorable points. From the set of Star Wars to the Taj Mahal and everything in between, the young royals certainly aren’t afraid to work it for the camera.
According to a new royal biography, however, it seems that not everyone was quite as enamoured with Wills and Kate’s posing up a storm in the months following their 2011 wedding. In Prince Charles: The Passions and the Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, author Sally Bedell Smith claims that Charles was less than pleased by the photos which the newlywed Duke and Duchess posed for on their official tours of Canada and California.
CafeMom reports that the first in line to the throne ‘wasn’t pleased with the camera–friendly couple’, and was ‘irked’ by their constant posing. Charles’ biographer even goes so far as to claim that the Prince considered the photos of Kate and William to be ‘tasteless.’ Ouch - and what's a royal tour without some awkward shots of Prince William dancing in a cowboy hat or Kate Middleton meeting Beyoncé?
According to Bedell Smith's book, it seems that the Queen herself was a little more lenient towards her grandson around the time of his nuptials. When William and Kate first received a wedding guest list with around 700 names - none of whom were friends of the couple - Her Majesty is reported to have told Wills to 'get rid of it... Start from your friends and then we'll add those we need to in due course.' Pretty solid advice, we think (although former Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown - neither of whom made the guest list - might beg to differ...)
