Many of us were devastated when the last episode of Peter Kay’s Car Share aired in 2018 - but, excitingly, John and Kayleigh are coming back to help get us through lockdown. In some much needed good news, an audio episode of the series will be launching on BBC iPlayer this Friday at 7pm.

‘It’s ahorrific situationsaid. ‘Sian Gibson, Paul Coleman and myself got together via t’internet and wrote a new short episode of Car Share in an effort to try cheer people up.’

The much-loved sitcom originally ran for two series between 2015 and 2017, with two finale episodes then airing in 2018.

The comedian continued, saying that the idea ‘didn’t even exist a week ago.’ He added, ‘Obviously we weren’t able to film anything because of the lockdown but I hope people will use their imagination and enjoy listening. I’ve given the episode to the good people at BBC iPlayer and it’ll be available to listen from Good Friday April 10. Here’s hoping people enjoying having John and Kayleigh back. Lord knows we need it right now.’

Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy, added, ‘We can’t thank Peter enough for giving up his time and effort to make this extra special treat happen in donating some much needed cheer to everybody for free.’

That's not the only exciting news, as Kay will also make his first TV appearance in two years on BBC’s The Big Night In - a three hour charity special. The show, airing on April 23, will also star Catherine Tate and Gary Barlow.
