An inquest today will disclose that Peaches Geldof died as a result of a heroin overdose, according to a report in The Times. If true, it would bring to an end any speculation about the cause of death, which was previously described as ‘unexplained’ and ‘unsuspicious’.
According to the paper, the 25-year-old overdosed in her Kent homeon 7 April, with her 11-month-old son by her side. It also says that the inquest will reveal that Peaches had become increasingly ‘obsessed’ with the death of her mother, Paula Yates, in recent months.
In a darkly parellel way, Yates died of an accidental heroin overdose in 2000. She was alone with her four-year-old daughter, Tiger Lily, at the time. Peaches had Instagrammed a picture of her with her mother the day before she died.
If the inquest does indeed confirm these reports, it'll be another blow for the Geldof family. And a desperately sad ending for Peaches – whose death inspired a flood of tributes on twitter, with those who'd known her describing her as 'consistently ballsy and opinionated, yet vulnerable too'.
