By now, it's obvious: we can’t get enough of Normal People’s Paul Mescal. We even have the stats to prove it. Google searches of the actor have gone through the roof (he was one of the most searched people in May), an Instagram account dedicated to Connell’s chain has now surpassed 180,000 followers and the actor raised a whopping£62,000{
While we’ll always be a bit obsessed with Connell’s chain, everyone now has a new obsession: Paul’s shorts. The Irish actor was seen a couple of weeks ago coming back from the shops in a pair of tiny white O’Neill’s shorts. Promptly, the internet went into meltdown - but some fans noticed that Gucci have been selling a very similar high-fashion pair of GAA-inspired shorts, with a price tag of £480, in their SS20 collection. (His O'Neill's shorts are nowhere near as pricey.)
Obviously, Paul's many admirers are now keen to see paparazzi pics of Paul wearing the Gucci shorts. When a Twitter user shared a picture of the shorts, writing: 'Hope they sent you a pair #NormalShorts @mescal_paul', the star responded: 'I mean I certainly would not say no!'
Another fan added, 'Gucci selling GAA shorts because Paul Mescal made them look fashionable hahahahaha wtf is 2020.'
‘It's hilarious,’ Paul previously said, laughing about how popular the shorts have been. ‘I'm aware that, sometimes on my way to the shops I'm being photographed. But, to be honest, there's no better item to be photographed in than a pair of Maynooth GAA shorts.'
Now, we're just awaiting to see him head out in a pair of Gucci shorts. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long.
