Paul Mescal is a talented guy, isn’t he? The Irish actor rose to fame earlier this year thanks to his award-nominated performance as Connell in BBC hit Normal People, but he also enjoyed success as a Gaelic football player. Now, it’s clear he’s one hell of a dancer, too. Some people have all the luck.
A new short film, released today, shows Paul show off his footwork in a routine inspired by 2020. AKA the worst year in living memory. The video, titled Lockdown, sees Paul engage in a 90 second dance, and has been made in line with a new campaign supporting performers who have been affected adversely by the year’s events.
The release of the film marks the launch of a new campaign that aims to support performers in the arts who have adversely affected by the impact of the pandemic. Viewers will be encouraged to submit their own 90 second performances as part of a competition, with Paul on the panel.

This photo offers a host of questions: is he outside or inside? If he's outside, where did he find a mirror to take such a clear selfie?

This was taken in Italy, so we think that means it was taken while Paul and the rest of the cast was filming the infamous visit to Marianne's family's villa.

Just Paul Mescal chilling with Dermot Kennedy, who he's going to be singing with soon. Totally casual.
‘This project took me totally out of my comfort zone as I am not a dancer’, says Paul. ‘Movement is something I loved doing at drama school and something that I’ve missed doing since entering the industry. There are thousands of performers in the arts industry that have been affected by the closures of theatres, venues and stages who have and are going through an incredibly challenging time.
‘I’m really proud to launch Samsung Spotlight which aims to help performers by giving them a platform to showcase their talents. I can’t wait to see what type of performances people come up with and I’m looking forward to judging the entries.’
Shot in ultra-high definition 8K video on the Samsung Galaxy S20, the Samsung Spotlight initiative. Wannabe winners can enter by submitting their performance – dance, mime, poetry, whatever they like - on Instagram using the #SamsungSpotlight hashtag. The prize includes £5,000 in cash and a virtual meet and greet with Paul himself.
