Over the past week, the world has been completely obsessed with the transformation of Lily James into Pamela Anderson. Lily{ =nofollow}, 32, is starring in new Hulu drama series Pam & Tommy, which will follow her marriage to the musician Tommy Lee alongside Marvel actor Sebastian Stan. Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy and Pam had only known each other for 96 hours before getting married, but stayed together for three years, and share two sons.

But in amongst the praise for Lily's reincarnation as the Baywatch actress - it really is uncanny - there has been some criticism that the show is even being made at all. This is because the drama will cover the release of their sex tape, which was stolen by Rand Gauthier (set to be played by Seth Rogen) and distributed without their consent. Hulu have described the show as 'a comedic limited series on the true story behind the release of the first-ever viral video in history—the sex tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee'.

Some of that criticism has even been directed at Lily, with Courtney Love, one of Pam's close friends, deciding to publicly take down the 'disgusting' series - and she didn't have the nicest things to about Lily, either, asking who the 'f***' the actress was

'When Pam / Tommy sex tape was out / myself @pattyschemel @xmadmx were making a record,' she said in a Facebook post, which appears to have since been deleted. 'And the lone women in many recording studios in LA. Where all / ALL! The staff engineers / producers / owners / were watching the sex tape with huge schadenfraude.. Guffaws, It was disgusting. I banned anyone discussing it.. It destroyed my friend Pamela's life. Utterly.'

'We tried to make light of it,' she continued. 'But that was a disaster too... because it’s a form of sexual assault isn’t it? It caused massive trauma to her, her family, her community. Her finances.'

The singer-songwriter also alleged that she had been approached to approve her 1994 Rolling Stone cover shot by photographer Mark Seliger being used, to which she said 'f*** no'. 'My heart goes out to Pammy further causing her complex trauma,' she continued. 'And shame on Lily James whoever the f she is.'

Last week, there were other reports that Pamela herself was not happy about the fact the upcoming series will dwell on the release of the sex tape. A friend reportedly told The Sun, 'Pamela has no intention of watching this God awful show, absolutely not. Never.' Adding that she thought the show was 'a cheap knockoff' and that she had no idea who the starring actors were.

Obviously, we can understand why Pamela - reportedly - and her friends are so upset this series is happening. This drama is bound to bring up traumatic memories that she'd rather forget, in front of the entire world, to audiences of millions. And just because the sex tape was leaked the first time, doesn't mean it's still public property to be turned into a drama for entertainment. When people are still alive and being played in a drama, their feelings should be taken into context. It's also understandable why those close to Pamela might be disappointed by Lily and Sebastian's involvement - but they're merely actors in something that is being created by a huge production company, the blame does not lie solely on them.

What is also questionable is that, as according to reports, Pamela has not given permission for this series to go ahead. 'They reached out, but it was an easy "no" for Pamela,' the source added to the paper. 'Her and Tommy have absolutely zero involvement in this project.'

So while Lily looks amazing, and we're undeniably intrigues, it's worth keeping in mind Pamela's feelings if you do decide to tune in to Pam and Tommy. She may have enjoyed huge success in the industry and put this breach of her trust behind her, but that doesn't mean that recreating it for other's profit isn't a little questionable.
