Paloma Faith has welcomed her first child with long-term boyfriend Leyman Lahcine.

The 35-year-old singer posted a handwritten note to her Instagram account to announce the happy news, expressing her thanks to the NHS staff who helped to support her through an emergency Caesarean.

'After a difficult labour resulting in an emergency Caesarean I gave birth to my first child with whom I am over the moon, in love and delighted. What a trip!' she wrote, before thanking the 'incredible doctors, midwives and nurses at UCH NHS Hospital.'

'The devotion, kindness and commitment shown by all of them was second to none and I am humbled by the whole experience. I really belive the NHS to be one of the great achievements of this country and it should be respected and protected by all,' she wrote.

Paloma is yet to reveal the name or gender of the new addition to her family.

The Brit Award-winning singer announced her pregnancy via her Facebook account in August, saying: ‘I am so delighted to tell you I am going to take a short while off to have a baby. I have spent my whole life wanting to be a mother and now the time has come for me to do so. I feel so lucky.’

Paloma and Leyman, a French artist, have been together for three years.

In the emotional post, Faith also added her voice to the current debate around pregnant celebrities being photographed by the paparazzi, just weeks after Anne Hathaway and Blake Lively spoke out about the media’s obsession with the so-called ‘post-baby body’.

‘I am nervous and excited about being a mum and just need to be normal and low key for a while,' she explained. 'Pregnancy and motherhood is a very personal thing: daunting, new and worrying at times and I don't want to add to it by having to "look" a certain way when pregnant or be photographed pregnant or with my child. I wasn't raised like that and I don't want my child to be. I want the baby to have the freedom of a normal life.’

Hear, hear.
