It seems that India and Ovie have decided to call it quits on their budding relationship – after only three months together since leaving the Love Island villa (in third place, no less) this summer. Alluding to online negativity since the break-up was reported yesterday, India took to Instagram to post a cryptic call for understanding: ‘It’s free to be kind… Think before you type… Thank you x’.
Reports of the split have taken fans by surprise, after Ovie spoke glowingly about his relationship with India to Metro at the end of September. The star said at the time, ‘We’re moving and taking positive steps and trying as much as possible to just mind our business and get on with our relationship’, adding that ‘India’s great man, she’s an absolute sweetheart. We’re absolutely fine, we’re happy.’
A month, though, is a long time – especially at the beginning of a relationship. The last five weeks saw the duo rocked by cheating rumours on both sides, with speculation that Ovie had kissed presenter Maya Jama and that India was getting close to her ex, footballer Kieran Gibbs. Both vehemently denied all claims, with Ovie explaining on a JD Sport’s podcast that ‘I swear to God, I’ve never met [Jama] in my life’ while India told the Sun Online that she’d received death threats amid rumours connecting her and Gibbs. ‘I was getting messages like, “if I found out you cheated on Ovie I will kill you”’, India said, while asserting that the ordeal had only brought the pair closer. ‘We have been fine, personally dealing with it, as a couple we are really strong’, she explained.
Despite overcoming enormous public pressure and scrutiny, it’s reported that the couple have decided to go their separate ways. A source told MailOnline that Ovie and India reached an ‘amicable’ decision to split owing to conflicting schedules. Both have certainly been kept very busy since leaving the villa, with India unable to attend the launch of Ovie’s ASOS collection owing to her own contract with competitor Boohoo.
With Ovie and India now parting ways, there remain only two intact couples from this year’s Love Island Saga. Molly Mae and Tommy, and Maura and Curtis, are both still going strong – meanwhile, we can only hope that India’s call for kindness goes some way towards putting a halt to the public backlash. Aren’t break ups hard enough?
