Making it onto an Oscar's Best Dressed List is the whole point of dressing up for the Academy Awards, right? (Right!) In a similar way, making the Oscar's Best Dressed COUPLES List is the point of turning up with a date, agreed? Because can you think of a more impressive example of #RelationshipGoals than getting you and your true love's name on such a list? We can't.

With that in mind, we present you with our favourite fashionably compatible couples from this year's ceremony...

Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow

We see a yellow dress, we think Belle – of course – and then also, Alicia, you know, from last year... Now, however, we shall think: Leslie. Leslie Mann and this eye-cathing, strapless Zac Posen dress. Judd Apatow looks pretty suave too...

Viola Davis and Julius Tennon

For lessons in how to do red on the red carpet, readers, look no further than Best Supporting Actress Winner, Viola. The off-shoulder-meets-halterneck, the side split, that train, and the colour... We love this Armani Privé creation. Factor in the gorgeous Julius Tennon as a date, and these two show 'how to' couple style on the red carpet.

Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso

We've seen lots of metallic on the RC thus far (RC: red carpet – can we get away with that?). The mosaic effect on the bodice of Luciano Barroso's silver gown adds an artistic element to this otherwise classic design. Matt opting for a navy black tie – no, not the usual black – is inspired too, subtle but chic. Together, they've nailed it. Bravo.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend

'It's very tight!' That's what Chrissy Teigen had to say about her Zuhair Murad white and gold figure-hugging sequined gown when asked about it by E! on arrival.

'She looks like a goddess,' husband John Legend quickly added. Awww. That's why they're one of Hollywood's favourite couples. And the fact he's dressed in Gucci – matching his wife at the upper ends of the style scale – is why they're one of our best dressed couples this year.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

'I call it perfection'. That was Justine Timberlake's description of his wife, Jessica Biels' Oscar-esque KAUFMANFRANCO dress (Oscar-esque because, well, she looks statuesque like an Oscar, agreed?) – oh and in case you're wondering, her dazzling Art Deco-style necklace is, unexpectedly, from Tiffany & Co.

As for JT? He wore his 'other wife, Tom Ford' (arf!). As a couple, we call them perfection.

Best friends make the best wing [wo]men, as we all know, so who better to take as a date to the Oscars than your BFF?

Quite!

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton might be one of our favourite looks this year. The monochrome effect of that plunging black neckline leading into the creamy, sparkly full-length skirt is how to do understated with show-stopping effect. Check out the clean lines. They're exquisite.

Busy's strapless emerald velvet gown is, similarly, classic and elegant and amazing, and we've officially run out of adjectives. Together, the BFF's have aced it. Well done!
