As he awaits trial for the charges of murdering girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius has spoken out about how heartbroken he is over her killing.

The Paralympian-turned-Olympian athlete wrote a message on his website on the anniversary of Reeva's death - Valentine's Day: 'No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who trull loved - and continues to love Reeva. The pain and sadness - especially for Reeva's parents, family and friends - consumes me with sorrow. The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Oscar.'

Oscar, 26, says that he was acting in self-defence when he shot at model Reeva four times through his locked bathroom door last year, believing her to be an intruder in his security-gated complex near Pretoria, South Africa. Prosecutors however have argued that Oscar intentionally killed Reeva after an argument.

Oscar is back in court for the final stages of his trial on Monday the 3rd of March. If found guilty by the judge of premeditated murder (South Africa does not try by jury), he faces up to 25 years in prison.
