Last night, the biggest selfie in the world ever happened. As well as it containing more 12 people, all of the people in it – with the exception of Lupita Nyong'o's brother - are really, properly famous. It's like all of those Tumblrs of cool famous people hanging out rolled into one. Oh, and after Ellen DeGeneres, the host of the Oscars, requested from viewers that it became the most retweeted photograph of all time, it did.
From left to right, it was Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep, Ellen DeGeneres, Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o, Lupita's brother Peter and Angelina Jolie. The entire thing blew our coffee-wired mind, but pity poor Liza Minnelli. At about 5ft 3in, she couldn't reach up past the behemoth of muscle that is Channing Tatum to get herself seen by Ellen's swanky camera phone (it was a massive Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android, just FYI, sponsorship fans)
The photo has, at the time of typing, been retweeted a whopping 2,327,380 times. This beats the previously most-retweeted photo by 1,524,498. The previous photo to hold the ‘most-retweeted’ spot was of Barack and Michelle Obama hugging after his re-election as US president in 2012, and that had 781,523 retweets. The mega Oscars selfie outdid this within half an hour of Ellen posting it, with the caption, ‘If only Bradley's arm was longer. Best photo ever. #oscars’
We hope this picture is going to stick around in the top spot, but knowing just how obsessive Beliebers and Directioners can be, we think this might just be the beginning of a new trend...
