We weren’t expecting to see any pictures of Angelina Jolie’s wedding to Brad Pitt. Ever. In fact, we wouldn’t have been surprised if they didn’t even take any at all, in order to fully protect their privacy. Seeing what can happen with this iCloud/Jennifer Lawrence/nude pics stuff, no photos might be the order of the day going forward.

But take pictures they did, and they sold them to Hello! and People magazines, no doubt for a handsome fee that will go to charity, and you guys, the dress isn’t what we imagined at all. At all.

Technically, it’s not the dress that’s the shocker. It’s the veil. Her gown, by Luigi Massi of Atelier Versace, is very Angie. Simple, unfussy, classic, ivory silk. Her veil is a whole other story; the floor-length gauze is covered with artwork created by the couple’s six children. We like to think they let them go ham with the magic markers in the playroom, but the illustrations were actually embroidered onto the veil.

Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox all had a big part to play in the ceremony which took place on 23 August at their home in France—Château Miraval. Maddox and Pax walked Angelina down the aisle, while Zahara and Vivienne threw petals. Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers and – this is the best par – Pax baked the wedding cake.

The couple had previously said they wouldn’t marry until same sex marriage was legal across the U.S, but more recently Brad told the Hollywood Reporter that their kids were really keen for their parents to be a married couple, so that seems to have been the main reason for making it official.
