Yet again, Nigella Lawson continues to be our favourite person on the internet. Yesterday, Nigella decided to celebrate the inauguration of Joe Biden - and Donald Trump leaving the White House - by sharing an incredibly apt recipe for 'bitter orange tart'. ‘Well, yes, Bitter Orange Tart just happens to be #RecipeOfTheDay,' the food writer tweeted. ‘Apart from anything else, there are more things to make with Seville oranges than marmalade! This is not complicated: the base is bashed ginger nuts.’
While she didn't name Trump (she did like some tweets pointing out the well-timed coincidence) the internet adored the sassy recipe. Caitlin Moran quoted the tweet and said: ‘If anyone says “Given the last few years, are there any things that still make you proud to be British?” I have to reply, “It’s a dwindling list, but Nigella Lawson calmly choosing Bitter Orange Tart on the day Trump leaves office would be one of them.”’ Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw also quoted the tweet, simply saying: '‘Nigella love levels rising’.
'I have to say, that when Seville oranges are in season, this tart looks like a disc of winter sunshine on the plate – and tastes like it, too,' Nigella says, describing the tart on her website. 'I must also add that the curd is just as fabulous spread over toasted crumpets or proper white bread.'
Last month, Nigella sent the UK into hysterics with her very unique pronunciation of 'microwave' on her show Nigella's Cook, Eat, Repeat, which spawned thousands of memes on Twitter. Grazia then decided to find out why Nigella prefers to say 'mee-cro-wa-vay', with someone in the know telling us that it's a 'long-standing inside joke' within the family. Ah, right - makes sense.
