No, James Franco isn’t actually directing Nick Jonas in a film, but his production company Rabbit Bandini has cast Nick Jonas in upcoming movie Goat.
Less about goats (unfortunately), and more an adaptation of Brad Land’s memoir about a terrible assault – and the hazing rituals of a fraternity – the indie movie will see Nick play the ‘charismatic’ (according to The Wrap) brother to Ben Schnetzer’s lead.
You wouldn’t cast Nick Jonas in an indie movie unless you wanted to pull a Spring Breakers, so we’re pretty excited. And if you have no idea what that means, it refers to the movie Spring Breakers in which director Harmony Korine cast ex-Disney tweens as drug-taking, sex-loving party girls who get in over their heads.
If you’ve ever wanted to see Vanessa Hudgens smoke a bong, then there’s your chance.
Whether we get to see Nick Jonas smoking a bong remains to be seen, but maybe this will be his first real break into a serious acting career. He’s already shed the butter-wouldn’t-melt boy-band image with a critically acclaimed eponymous album last November (‘The new sound works well: he’s sweetly confident while singing about all the adult lust that he has been suppressing in his music for years’, wrote Rolling Stone) and then practically getting his Little Jonas out with a mostly nude photoshoot for *Flaunt. *So why not go for the serious actor role too? It worked for Zac Efron. A bit.
And considering the book’s subject matter, this should give Nick all the tools he needs to show off his acting chops. Brad Land’s brother is the wild, party-loving one who pledges a fraternity and – according to Good Reads – Brad follows him into a world of ‘torturous late-night hazing... and, finally, the death of a fellow pledge’.
We’re really, really, looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
