Channing Tatum! Amy Adams! Benedict Cumberbatch! Eddie Redmayne! Reese Witherspoon! Vanity Fair’s latest annual Hollywood cover features a whole host of Brits, plus Amy Adams draped around Channing Tatum’s not insubstantial neck, and was shot by photographer extraordinaire Annie Leibovitz. While they’ve gone for the more established, 30-plus crowd (and included Sienna Miller, which is interesting and a bit baffling) doing old-style glamour, they’ve also really captured a moment. As always.

To commemorate the cover, here’s a gallery of our favourite Hollywood covers that also totally encapsulated an era of film. Remember the pink one with Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes and Hilary Duff? The one where Scarlett Johansson got her butt out? Let’s reminisce…

Mena Suvari. Selma Blair. Chris Klein. The one who films a paper bag in American Beauty. We all wanted to be, date or hang out with these people at some point - that point being when Clare's Accessories was at its peak and loom bands hadn't even been thought of yet. Ryan Phillipe should have been on this cover, and Paul Walker looks so, so happy which makes us so, so sad.

Before they figured out how to superimpose everyone so it at least looks like they're in the same room, this is a real blast from the past. In terms of the people and the clothes. Uma looks like a goddess, and SJP is rocking it but what the hell is she wearing? They all look like they wandered in halfway through getting dressed. But it's still awesome.

No, this wasn't a Hollywood cover but it deserves a mention for being mad on so many levels. The un-ironed shiny trousers. The combats. The clashing shades of pink. The fact that so many of these teen idols went crashing off the rails not long after. The mourning of Gilmore Girls. How, obviously, the Olsens are the only ones wearing anything we'd remotely wear now.

A clear nod to the 2000 shoot - and everyone on here is fucking brilliant. Plus, it shows how far the aesthetic of the shoot has come in ten years; while they're all in a park, it's just that little bit classier/artier. God we wish Emma Stone was our best mate. But JLaw should have been on here.

Here come the boys, etc. Remember when Skeet Ulrich was a pinup (CAN'T BELIEVE IT WAS HIM WTF - Scream reference), David Arquette and Courtney were a hot couple and Leo wore trousers that were way too big and baggy for him? God bless Leo. Look how young he is. And Matthew McConaughey pre McConaissance.

All the strongest Hollywood women in one shoot. Every woman was killing it on the big screen, the pink is feminine without being sickly, and most of those featured remain at the top of box office. Or, at the very least, well respected. Check out Maggie in the corner - just so, so cool.

Well this was a divider. Tom Ford made his foray into film with A Single Man, and both Keira and Scarlett got their kit off, at the height of their fame. In fact, they're still at the height of their fame now. Two very different body types, both looking slamming, we're big fans. Even though Tom does look a bit creepy. Especially considering he's the only one fully dressed...
