The new trailer for Gone Girl is here, and just in case you were thinking of starting today with a lol, it's best to click elsewhere, because it is darker than a drab rainy weekend in the middle of winter. It's also very watchable.
Just like the previous trailer, Ben Affleck plays a just-about-likeable Nick as he goes through a lot of torment after being framed for his wife Amy's murder. Or is he framed? We know the answer but we won't tell you as it does look as if a lot of this film is hinged on the did-he didn't-he question.
Luckily, if you did read the book, you probably won't be too disappointed as the film looks to have all of the same mysterious twists and turns and it'll be interesting to see how they play out. Unlike the older trailer, we get a pretty good look Amy – played frostily by Rosamund Pike – and we get a little into her psyche, through the inclusion of her diaries. Which, again, without giving you any spoilers, definitely bodes well for those hoping this David Fincher adaptation will remain true to the Gillian Flynn novel.
We see Neil Patrick Harris for the first time, being just as eerie as the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross-scored soundtrack. And we also see just how far Nick's fame/infamy goes, as he is interviewed by a mean-looking chat-show host in one of those glossy specials. No sign yet of Emily Ratajkowski, who plays, well, we can't say. But she plays someone incredibly important to the story. And also, it's quite a good sign that the people behind this film are so confident in its success that they don't need to put the lead naked girl from Blurred Lines into the trailer to get people clicking.
Enjoy… if enjoy's the right word for something so spooky and tense.
