There are so many gems landing on Netflix in April – from Rashida Jones’ must-see documentary on porn, dating and sex in the social age to nostalgic ‘90s classics (Cool Runnings and co, we're looking at you). But there is one TV show in particular we cannot wait to stream: Girlboss.
A badass female lead? #Millennial problems? Retro style inspo aplenty? It’s all there.
The Netflix original, launching on April 21st, is inspired by the New York Times best-selling book '#GIRLBOSS' by Sophia Amoruso - aka the uber-cool founder of cult fashion label Nasty Gal.
The series centres on Amoruso’s rise to success, who began selling vintage clothes on eBay in 2006 and - by the age of 28 - had built a multi-million dollar empire (no easy feat: this was pre-Instagram/Snapchat and Twitter had only just launched).
The young actress playing Sophia? Britt Robertson. The 26-year-old's acting CV so far includes a turn in Garry Marshall's rom-com Mother’s Day last year (Jack Whitehall played her husband) and Notebook-style weepie The Longest Ride, but this role is set to cement her status as the one to watch this year (The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Johnny Simmons and up-and-comer Ellie Reed also star alongside her).
For those in their 20s and 30s feeling a little lost? LOVE clothes but never feel like you have enough £££ to actually buy anything? This is your new must-watch. A modern-day girl guide to getting s—t done, of sorts. And, as the title suggests, a masterclass in how to be your own boss. Oh yeah, and it’s very, very funny too.
