Mindy Kaling has given birth to a baby girl. The actress has named her daughter Katherine – continuing Hollywood’s love of an alliterative name.
News of the 38-year-old actress’s pregnancy first broke in July, when her Wrinkle In Time co-star Oprah Winfrey spilled the news. Kaling wasn’t angry, however, instead seeing the funny side – as she told Ellen DeGeneres on her show in October: ‘If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person. You can’t complain that much about it. And you also can’t be like, “Hey, Oprah, zip it’ — because she’s almost like a religious figure.’
Kaling has refused to identify the father of her child since confirming her pregnancy, with sources telling People magazine that not even her closest friends know. She was single at the time of falling pregnant and is notoriously private about her love life. In the past, she’s been linked to her The Office co-star B.J. Novak, who she dated between 2005-2007 on and off, and writer Benjamin Nugent, who she was linked to between 2008-2012.
Speaking on the Today show, she said: ‘I'd like to be the fun mom, I know I'm gonna be the dorky mom. So if I can be kind of fun too, I think that would be nice.’
It’s similar to January Jones’s situation back in 2011, when she decided not to reveal the father of her son Xander, as she was also not in a relationship at the time she became pregnant.
