Millie Mackintosh has shared that her baby daughter, Sienna, has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia - meaning she has to wear a special harness. The former Made In Chelsea star told followers she was 'shocked and saddened' by the news, and that Sienna - who is three months old - will have to wear a harness all the time for 6-12 weeks.
Mum-of-one Millie wrote: 'It's been an emotional few days over here…Sienna had a routine hip scan at 6 weeks because she was breech from 28 weeks onwards, it showed one hip socket was under developed but I was reassured it was likely to sort itself out by 12 weeks, but they booked her in for another scan just to make sure.
'Despite being naturally worried initially, I put it to the back of my mind and got on with things. But when we went for our second scan, I was shocked and saddened to learn she has in fact got developmental hip dysplasia and the treatment is to wear a special harness all the time for 6-12 weeks.'
The NHS describes hip dysplasia as 'a condition where the ball and socket joint of the hips does not properly form in babies and young children'.
Millie continued, 'Apparently, it has a 90% chance of totally correcting her hip, so she hopefully shouldn’t need surgery or have any issues with her movement, so we are remaining positive and grateful that we found out early. The hardest part is that I can’t hold her properly to cuddle her and finding a comfortable breast-feeding position is really difficult while we adapt to this change in our reality, a reality that we’ve worked so hard on! It feels like we are back at the newborn stage, her routine has gone out the window and we are having to learn how to care for her all over again.'
Millie and her husband Hugo Taylor welcomed their baby girl in May, and posted the first photo of their child a month later. 'The first four weeks of your life have been the best four weeks of mine', she wrote. 'Thank you for making me a Mummy darling girl.' A week later, the pair revealed the baby's seriously cute name: Sienna Grace.
Ahead of the birth, the former reality star revealed her plans to take a break from social media as she prepared to welcome her daughter. 'Signing off for a while - looking back on the last nine months, despite its challenges, it’s been a real blessing,' she wrote on Instagram. 'The unwavering support I’ve had from you all as a community has been such a comfort to me. Social media, for all its negatives, really has some sparkling gems of positivity along the way and connecting with you all has really helped me through my pregnancy struggles.'
She added, 'When I return I shall continue to be open and honest sharing my experiences and early days of motherhood. Until then, it’s with a huge, heartfelt thank you from me for all the support. Now onto the next part of the journey! #fourthtrimester #seeyouontheotherside.'
