People might wonder why Miley Cyrus doesn't seem to be bothered by the hate she gets. She didn't care when people berated her for her MTV VMAs performance, where she twerked up on Robin Thicke. She didn't care when people had a go at her for licking a sledgehammer in her Wrecking Ball video. She basically doesn't seem to give a crap what the haters say.

That's because she's had bigger things to deal with in her life, as she's now admitted that she has suffered with depression before, 'I went through a time where I was really depressed. Like, I locked myself in my room and my dad had to break my door down.

'It was a lot to do with... I had really bad skin and I felt really bullied because of that. But I never was depressed because of the way someone else made me feel. I just was depressed.'

She also said that helping her fans to overcome their depression by being a role model for them – in an overcoming depression sense, hopefully not in the sledgehammer-licking sense – is what gets her through touring.

'They know that I’ve struggled with depression and that helped them get over theirs,' she continued. 'That gives me a big purpose – a reason to wake up in the morning that’s bigger than to put on my fucking eathers and my little outfits.'

The singer, who is on a world tour right now, also told Elle that she used to think she would 'die' if she broke up with Liam Hemsworth, who she has since broken up with, and look, she's still here.

Though depression can recur, and will happen to people no matter how well their life is going, Miley seems to be good right now. OK, a little naughty, and she's been very upset about the death of her dog, Floyd. But she seems to be all good inside. And that's great.
