If you think having a glass of wine or two and going on eBay is bad, spare a thought for Miley Cyrus who dropped $500K at an auction on Wednesday night.
The singer spent $300K on a Ryan McGinley photograph, and she went on to spend a further $200K later in the evening. NBD. It was all for a very good cause though, since Miley was at the AIDS Research (AmfAR) Inspiration Gala in Los Angeles, where she and many other celebs from Rihanna to Tom Ford dug really, really deep for the charity.
‘I'm a little drunk. That's why I'm a half a million deep,’ she said, after buying the artwork and donating $200K. The donation happened on the same day she was named MAC’s newest face of Viva Glam, the proceeds of which go toward MAC’s HIV and AIDS fund.
‘If I'm going to have a voice I would like to start an open dialogue about prevention and awareness and how people in the world have been affected by HIV and AIDS,’ she said. ‘Hopefully, I could break down people's walls that have been built up around sexuality. I'm obviously not too embarrassed to talk about these things, especially with young people.’
Gwyneth Paltrow showd her sense of humour, too, when she took to the stage to introduce Rihanna: ‘I'm drunk now so this isn't fair. And Miley Cyrus has so much more money than I do. What the f—k?’ she joked.
Earlier in the evening, Gwyneth introduced a surprise performance by her ex, Chris Martin, calling him ‘father of year’. Maybe she was trying to raise his spirits since he just got dumped by Jennifer Lawrence? She may be his ex, but she still has his back. That's nice.
