In the gloriously entertaining whirlwind that is Miley Cyrus’s recent love life, there seems to be a new man on the scene. Since her divorce from Liam Hemsworth was announced a couple of months ago, swiftly followed by a brief relationship with Kaitlynn Carter (hey, #HotGirlSummer!), we’re moving into the hallowed era of what Miley’s dubbed #HotGirlFall after a video of her kissing long-time friend Cody Simpson emerged last week.

While the revelation that the pair’s relationship had taken a romantic turn was news to the world, Cody and Miley have been close for years. And tweets dug up from the internet’s deepest past (the murky depths of 2009!) reveal that Cody’s always been something of a Miley super-fan – at 22 now, the adorably-tween tweets ('i love Miley! She Rocks, Cody:)') put him around age 12 at the time. Not everyone gets to make out with their first celebrity crush, do they? I mean, does anyone? Cody’s head must be exploding – but Miley seems pretty happy too.

Taking the internet’s losing-its-mind like a bull by the horns, Miley addressed the rumour mill head on. Her Instagram story featured the explosive video of her and Cody making out with ‘Lol sneaky ass’ written on the bottom along with a righteous rhetorical question, ‘Can a girl not get a fucking acai bowl and a morning make out session in peace ?!?!’ Then, a snap of Cody with a list of his greatest assets ’22… Australian (my type)…. Abs’ each with a solid green tick next to them. Hard to argue with, for sure.

Having made light of the situation, Miley launched into a heartfelt account of her dating life as it stands, and the double standards that she’s subjected to as a woman in the public eye. ‘Men (especially successful ones) are RARELY slut shamed. They move on from one beautiful young woman to the next MOST times without consequence. They are usually referred to as "legends", "heart throbs", "G", "Ladies Man", etc…. where women are called sluts/whores! I am trying to just THRIVE/survive in a "mans" world...If we can’t beat em, join em! If our president can "grab em by the pussy…." can’t I just have a kiss and an açai bowl?!?!

PREACH, Miley. The star went on to make clear that she won’t be cowed into conducting her private life behind closed doors – ‘I refuse to recluse and "date" from home cause A. That’s not fun B. Extremely uncomfortable/puts me in a vulnerable position’ – and finished her statement with a call for us to collectively Calm Down and Get With The Program: ‘Get used to me dating - this is where I’m at!’ I mean, imagine if someone followed you around as you tried to navigate the hellscape that is dating in 2019? Miley’s doing beautifully – bring on #HotGirlFall.
